/ Marlène Awaad
2014, Poland - The return to the old Slavic beliefs is not new but the number of followers is increasing. Often seen as an alternative to Catholicism, paganism attracts followers looking for a way to reclaim their identities and return to their roots.
Currently, there are several native religious communities, some of which are officially registered with the state. These pagans worships gods associated to the forces of nature - Mokosz represents Mother Earth, the Sun is the realm of Swarog, and thunder that of Perun. Each year, Pagans celebrate major festivals in Poland, four of which are related to the Sun. These celebrations are an opportunity to gather people of the same belief through ritual offerings, symbolizing their faith and respect to the deities.
